Hotell Göteborg: Best Luxury Hotels in Gothenburg 2023

Gothenburg is known as the most sustainable destination in the world, but aside from that, it’s also the home of Volvo, which is clearly highlighted at the arrival area of the Landvetter airport. The city has both the beauty of nature and the establishments of a modern city. It also hosts many concerts by various international artists. We’ve mentioned that the city has a thriving dining scene. There are a lot of great options for brunch, Swedish fika, and so much more.

Are you a luxury traveler? Do you love hotels with amazing interiors, a wellness center, and a great breakfast buffet with panoramic city views? If yes, save this list as your reference! These are our picks for the best luxury accommodations in Gothenburg:

Upper House is without a doubt  the most luxurious accommodation in Gothenburg. The hotel suite is located on the top floor of the Gothia Towers hotel, so it has amazing panoramic views of the city. The 5-star hotel includes three floors of Spa & Relax and beauty treatments, a Turkish bath, and an outdoor pool, which is probably its most popular feature.

There are different room types: city view, bridal suite, suite, landmark view, and non-smoking rooms. Guests staying at Upper House have access to all the facilities of the Gothia Towers hotel, including a fitness center, a swimming pool, and a variety of dining options. There are about 70 restaurants within 0.3 miles, which is a great choice for walkers. It’s also very close to some major attractions in the city, like Liseberg, one of Scandinavia’s biggest amusement parks.

As for costs, the price of staying at the Upper House depends on two major factors: the season and the length of your stay. Please take note that most accommodations in Sweden dramatically increase in price in the summer. As of this writing, which is early March 2023, a night in the Upper House costs 2,759 SEK($600), but as mentioned, this could be doubled or even more during peak season.

Dorsia Hotel & Restaurant is a beautiful boutique hotel nestled in the heart of Gothenburg. The hotel has a distinctively luxurious and stylish feel, with an emphasis on art, design, and contemporary Swedish cuisine. Drama is the word for this hotel! There are about 37 rooms and suites, each with unique decor and furnishings, including bespoke art pieces, velvet drapes, and marble bathrooms. For relaxation, they have a high-end spa that offers a range of treatments.

The hotel’s signature restaurant serves modern Swedish cuisine with an emphasis on local and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star. I had an 8-course meal here with my husband, and it was one of the best luxury dinners we’ve had, even bettering other more expensive 5-star hotel dinners we’ve been to in other major cities. You should set a budget of at least 1000–1500 sek per person ($120–180 USD).

The hotel is on Trädgårdsgatan, a street in the city center, so there are many nearby hotels and restaurants.

A night’s stay starts at around 2,500 SEK ($300 USD), and as of this writing, which is early March 2023, a night here costs 2,411 SEK ($225 USD), but like most other hotels, this changes a lot depending on the season.

Do you like fancy artsy decor, Michelin-starred restaurants, and high-end spas? If yes, then Dorsia Hotel & Restaurant is the hotel for you.

Hotel Pigalle is a boutique hotel in an 18th-century building in Brunnsparken, Gothenburg. It is a central area, so it’s the perfect option if you like going for tourist walks.

Just be mindful of the fact that construction is everywhere in Gothenburg these days, so do check on this. There are a whopping 215 restaurants and 32 attractions within 0.3 miles.

The hotel also has a very romantic vibe with French-inspired cuisine and a classic cocktail bar. A night’s stay in this quirky hotel starts at around 1,500 SEK ($140 USD), and as of this writing, which is early March 2023, a night here costs 1,272 SEK ($119 USD).

This hotel is just a few miles to Gothenburg’s most popular landmarks, such as Avenyn (0.3 mi) and Lilla Bommen (0.6 mi). Therefore, you have access to 249 restaurants and 37 attractions within 0.3 miles.

The rooftop pool is probably its most well-known feature but I love this hotel for its amazing art! The bar on the ground floor is also a popular spot for locals so it can be really crowded on weekend nights. A rooftop pool and a complimentary breakfast are also offered to guests. There is parking available for visitors arriving by car but it’s a bit harder to get around with a car though. It’s very close to tram stops though so I do recommend taking the tram instead.

It costs around 1600 SEK ($140 USD) per night to stay here and as of this writing, which is early March 2023, a night here costs 1,553 SEK ($145 USD).

Elite Hotels is considered Sweden’s most classic hotel chain. They combine style with modern trends. In Gothenburg, there are two Elite hotels.

They have an on-site restaurant that offers traditional Swedish cuisine with a modern twist. If you love Italian food, there are good restaurants nearby like Magazzino, Trattoria La Sultana, and Trattoria La Strega. The hotel also features a fitness center, a 24-hour front desk, and concierge services.

There are 317 rooms and suites. They also have an on-site restaurant that offers Nordic cuisine. There’s a fitness center for guests to use. I have been told the hotel is quite old, so you might want to consider that.

The rate per night starts at 1200 sek ($112 USD), and as of now, early March 2023, the starting rate per night is at 1103 sek ($103 USD).

Gothia Towers is a large, modern luxury hotel in Korsvägen with 1200 rooms. The hotel’s location is very central, which gives its guests access to many dining options. You can just cross the street to visit Scandinavia’s largest amusement park, Liseberg. There are different on-site restaurants: Corner, which combines American and European flavors, Heaven 23, which is a personal favorite of mine and I love taking my friends here because city views are amazing, especially in the summer, West Coast, which celebrates Nordic cuisine, and Twentyfourseven, which is found in the lobby of Tower 3, and for a more elevated cheese, cold cuts, and wine experience, head over to the Upper House Dining Room. Whenever I am in Heaven 23, I always recommend to my friends that they try the King-size Shrimp Sandwich. It’s probably the most celebrated Swedish dish in Gothenburg.

Gothia Towers also has a conference center with 60 meeting rooms, so a lot of international events and expos are held there. I’ve been to some events here, and I love how spacious and modern it is.

When we stayed at Gothia Towers, our room had the Liseberg view which was really fun because it was summer and I can see just how much the city comes to life in the summer.

The hotel has five on-site dining options: Restaurant Vrå, which features Nordic and Japanese fusion; Restaurant Norda, which draws influences from Manhattan kitchen and its green oasis vibes give a great social dining experience; The Postal Bar, which is a great option for after work or to just grab a drink with some friends; Living Room Bar & Cafe, which is another lovely spot for Swedish fika; and the Terrace, which is for those who enjoy outdoor dining experiences, especially during the summer.

Hotel Bellora describes itself as a hustling lifestyle house with visionary affairs and Italian vibes. It’s quite interesting; I must stay! The hotel is nestled in Avenyn, which gives you access to all the nearby restaurants, cafes, and attractions of the city. It is a great hotel choice for those who want easy access to various establishments. There are 97 rooms and meeting facilities at Bella Vista. There is an on-site Italian restaurant, Ristorante Bellora, and they have pasta or pizza of the day. I must say that it’s nice to grab a drink at the rooftop bar when the weather is good because you can see the trams and most of Avenyn.

Standard room rates start at 1000 SEK ($100 USD). At the time this article was written, the standard room rate was only 811 SEK ($76 USD) a night.

Radisson Blu Scandinavia

The hotel is located in Södra Hamngatan, which is very close to the Central Station and Nordstaden Mall. It is a family-friendly hotel with 355 rooms. There are two on-site restaurants: Atrium Bar and Restaurant, which offers all-day dining with a breakfast buffet, lunch, and brunch on weekends; and Noot Nordic Kitchen and Bar, which, as the name states, focuses more on Nordic cuisine. During lunch or dinner, you can avail of their 3-course menu or create your own with vegetarian options.

The rate per night starts at 1000 sek ($93 USD), and as of now, early March 2023, the starting rate per night is 946 sek ($88 USD).

Radisson Blu Riverside Hotel

This Radisson is a bit far from the city center but close to the new innovation center, Lindholmen. You can actually take a 6-minute free ferry ride to the city center, which still makes it quite accessible. The best feature of the hotel is its stunning views of the archipelago, especially from the rooftop terrace.

They have an on-site award-winning restaurant and bar, Cuckoo’s Nest, which is very popular for its brunch. The interiors are also very quirky and have very interesting furniture. I personally love this place and have celebrated different special events here. There’s a wellness and fitness area, and for pet lovers, it would be good to know that dogs are welcome in the hotel!

This hotel is considered one of Sweden’s hotels that is still in operation and has 69 rooms and suites. The room types are classic, superior, and executive. The history is clearly shown in the hotel’s sophisticated white facade, and it feels like walking back in time when you enter the lobby. There is an on-site restaurant that exudes Parisian vibes where you can enjoy their daily lunch and dinner, bistro menu, or have afternoon tea, after work, and oyster bar.

Hotel Eggers is also centrally located and just a stone’s throw from Central Station and Nordstaden Mall, so it’s another perfect option for those who want to go on city walks.
